It's a compelling piece of film – as we glimpse the
ideological struggle between Mid-Century Modernism and the conservative culture out of which it emerged.
The attempt to assure the viewer of the couples’
adherence to 'traditional' gender roles looks uncomfortable and problematic to
us now. But it also indicates how radical and progressive, not only as
designers but also as individuals Ray and Charles Eames really were.
Worth watching all the way through, overall this 1956 NBC Television
broadcast remains arguably the coolest TV infomercial ever.
